Okay folks I would like to touch base on Astrology for a second. You know that art of (scientific) divination utilizing information such as your birthdate, birth time, location and where the planets were when all of that was happening to get an idea of your personality.
Astrology is so much more than that though. However.....astrology is not my baliwick ( area of expertise) so I'm not going to touch base on all of that ( we got some nifty pro's here that have an AWESOME understanding of astrology such as Ba of Osiris....he's great with the stuff!).
I have some understanding of it after working with a friend who was teaching an astrology 101 class and there is a nifty book called Predicting Your Future by Selene that really helped me understand astrology.

So what am I doing posting?
To help bridge the gap between Astrologese and English. Ever walk into a room and someone says "Are you a Virgo?" Or you hear "O that is so Leo of him?" If you are anything like me this leaves you somewhat confused and maybe some mental pictures in your head of virgins and lions......
Perhaps you are lucky enough to have a pal who understands astrology really well. And maybe that person has a hard time turning the technical aspects of this wonderful topic into something you can understand ( I was soooo there when I was helping my friend out....thank heavens for google and Predicting Your Future).

So here I am to help give you a Pre-K version of Astrology for dummies. If I am off my marker on any info then I definately encourage to be corrected ( I am not perfect).

So let's start with......
Your Sun Sign!
What is your sun sign? Well you know when someone says "I'm a Cancer" or" Jeff's a Libra"...they are telling you their sun sign. And that means what?
Well if you have ever seen an astrology chart it looks like a pie that has been cut up into 12 slices ( they are called houses). Each slice is ruled by a sign ( more on that later). Your sun sign just means that the sun was hanging out in a particular slice when you were born.
For instance I was born sometime between 1230pm and 1pm on January 20th. At the time I graced the world with my prescence the sun was hanging out in the slice ( house) of Aquarius.

So what else does your sun sign mean? Well it's supposed to give you ( and others) an idea of your outward personality ( are you orderly? chaotic? shy? limelighting? etc).

Here is a list of Birthdates so you can fine your sign. Then I will list everyone's GENERAL personality that is associated with it.

Aries -March 21 -April 19th
Taurus- April 20- May 20
Gemini- May 21-June 20
Cancer - June 21 - July 22
Leo - July 23 - August 22
Virgo - August 23- September 22
Libra -September 23- October 22
Scorpio- October 23- November 21
Sagittarius - November 22- December 21
Capricorn -December 23 -January 19
Aquarius - January 20 -February 18
Pisces - February 19- March 20th


GENERAL personalities of each ( according to Sun sign information).....

Aries ( First House)


Pros: Idealistic, Self-motivated
Cons: Unable to tolerate those they see as foolish, need for a meaningful career, headstrong

Pros: Cautious with money, A real family person
Cons: Needs security, Resists change, Materialistic




Gemini ( Third House)


Pros: Quick on the uptake, needs variety at work, good communicator, good parent

Pros : Good homemaker and family person
Cons: Needs a calm atmosphere in the home, shrewd, emotional, moody and possessive




Leo ( Fifth House)


Pros: Loyal, has high personal standards and leadership qualities, has a zest for life
Cons: Can be arrogant, irritable and bossy




Virgo ( Sixth House)


Pros: Copes well with details, good friend, great sense of humour
Cons: Needs emotional support










Libra ( Seventh House)


Pros: Sociable and friendly, refined and artistic, good homemaker
Cons: Can be argumentative




Scorpio ( Eighth House)


Pros: Tenacious, loyal to friends and family, persuasive, feels deeply
Cons: Can have a hot temper, moody, possessive




Sagittarius ( Ninth House)


Pros: Quick minded, dexterous, optimistic, sensitive, kind
Cons: Restless, sometimes lacks common sense




Capricorn ( Tenth House)


Pros: Sensible, Buisnesslike, Ambitious, Good to parents and family
Cons: Can be unsocialble




Aquarius ( Eleventh House)


Pros: Original and inventive mind, Broad minded, humanitarian, good teacher
Cons: Can be vague and forgetful




Pisces ( Twelfth House)


Pros: Sociable and friendly, cares for less fortunate people. Artistic, mystical, psychic
Cons: Sometimes sharp –tongues or moody






Okay so now you know what the Sun sign is all about.
BUT WAIT!
There is MORE!
While your sun sign gives you and others an idea of your outward ( and basic) personality, you have a Moon Sign that gives you ( and others) an idea of your inward personality. The inside you. The way you process emotions and all that ( think of it as the subconscious you).
Like the Sun sign all it means is that the moon was hanging out in a certain slice ( house) when you were born.
There are a myriad of combinations out there ( like say a sun sign Scorpio with a Taurus moon). These two signs can actually give a hefty hint into your basic personality
I'm a fluke. I'm Aquarius Aquarius ( sun and moon sign the same). How is that possible? There was an eclipse happening when I was born.....!

So here are the moon signs info :

Aries ( First House)


Ambitious, self motivated, self-centered




Taurus ( Second House)


Security conscious, materialistic, comfort-loving




Gemini ( Third House)


Humourous, intelligent, a worrier




Cancer ( Fourth House)


Good teacher, family-minded, might be close to mother




Leo ( Fifth House)


Childish, creative, loves drama, self- centered




Virgo ( Sixth House)


Health conscious, analytical mind, can have a criical mother




Libra ( Seventh House)


Tasteful, likes companionship but fears commitment










Scorpio ( Eighth House)


Intense feelings, intelligent, critical, often psychic




Sagittarius ( Ninth House)


Needs emotional freedom, broad-minded, might have a whacky mother




Capricorn ( Tenth House)


Ambitious, self-sufficient, might have harsh parents




Aquarius ( Eleventh House)


Friendly, humanitarian, intelligent, can be eccentric




Pisces ( Twelfth House)


Religious or mystical, intuitive, vulnerable , gentle






And this means what?
Well let's take my example of a Sun sign Scorpio with a Taurus moon sign.
This personality would present itself to the outside world as someone who is dedicated to finishing a project ( no matter what) is sensitive, intense and emotional. On the inside this person may be really security conscious, materialistic, and comfort-loving .


So now you know a bit about what a sun sign is, what it means, how it represents you as well as what a moon sign is and all that. Together they present a pretty basic and nifty insight to yourself ( and others).

Heya,

There was a 13th sign too, and it was apparently dropped to make the signs match the months. Between Scorpio and Saggitarius the sun spends 19 days in Ophiuchus. Here's a linky I trawled from the interwebs:

The constellations are all different sizes too, so the sun takes longer to travel through some than others.

As a typical Taurus I'm very sceptical about it all...

Yeah I heard once about a 13th sign. Like I said this is na my baliwick however I have enough info to provide a pre-k crash course sort of deal with this category.

You have made the same mistake through the rest of the Sun Signs. Taurus is the second sign in the Zodiac, not the second House.

Well, CS is pretty good at posting stuff.... in all, she is like a librarian, she can find information, but she isn't necessarily an expert on said information.

What may have fouled her up was the quote "Aries (First House)."

Aries is not the first house, but it is certainly associated (the sign epitomizes behaviors common to) with the first house. As is Taurus is associated with the second house. And so on.

It was right after you posted your long term plan for world domination.


Seriously though, I didn't say that you said she was bad at posting.
