In Tarot it is common practice to choose a Significator (also known as the Querant ) card before choosing any other cards for the reading, The Sig. card is supposed to represent the person you are reading for. If you are reading for yourself it is supposed to represent who you are at that moment.
When I first started with the Tarot I just skipped that whole step (yes I know shame on me, but impatience is the field of youth). I figured "DUH! I already know who I am !" Later I realized how important this could be in gaining information, but I had little luck drawing a card to represent.
Sigh. So what is a gal to do?
Improvise Improvise Improvise!
So I took my bag of stones (had several in there each one a different stone....some were Amethyst, Malachite, Tigers Eye, Sodalite, Red Jasper....you get the idea). I decided since each stone had its own meaning and qualities theyshould do just fine.
So next reading I held for a friend I told them to stick their hand in and just "play with the rocks". O you can imagine the look I got. He finally withdrew a stone (how do i know its the right one? -If you felt the need to pick it up then it is. If you doubt it then drop it. If it is meant to be taken by you then you will find it again-) and then I did the reading. It was so neat to see that the stone pegged him and his situation before I even drew the cards.
So there you go. You can use stones as an alternative method of using a Significator card.
