Okay so what do I mean by "Elements" when I am referring to tarot? Which cards are those again?
Those would be the Minor Arcana. These cards represent situations and things that you have more direct control and interaction with ( while the Major Arcana is more of a "Hey look and listen" set that is somewhat out of your hands).
The Minor Arcana is Divided up into four suits. Each suit is ruled by an element and each element represents something basic but important. Reconizing which element is more prominent while doing a Spot Reading will already give you a strong step in figuring out the rest of the reading.
Swords ( also known as Knives, Arrows, or Spades)
The element here is AIR.
Air rules the mind representing its cutting power to slice through hurdles and obstacles. That would probably be why most of the Sword cards are so damn depressing.........hard times so pay attention and use your mind!
Cups (also known as Bowls, Chalices, Cauldrons, Goblets and Hearts)
The element here is WATER.
Ahhh the ebb and flow of one of the most versatile elements and it is no wonder that it is paired with emotions, relationships, interactions and feelings. If you see cups in your cards then you know strong feelings are at play.
Disks ( also known as Pentacles,Coins, Shields, and Diamonds)
The element here is EARTH.
Think attached to your environment. Here and now. Hearth, Home, Buisness ( money money money.....moooooonnnneeey) Growth and prosperity. When these fellows show up it's a good guess that the reading has to do with ones immediate environment.
Wands ( also known as Staffs, Staves,Pipes,Sticks,Crooks, and Clubs)
The element here is FIRE.
The Wand here is the symbol of that first spark. And what does that spark mean? Ideas! Journeying, messages, projects, things to do. Creation and Creativity. So if you see wands in your cards its a safe bet that there will be some busy time coming up.
So Recap:
Swords - Air- Using mind to get over hurdles
Cups - Water - Emotions and interactions
Disks - Earth - Home, buisness, money
Wands - Fire - Creativity, messages, beginnings
So now when you glance at a reading you can get a quick idea of what the overall elemental influence is.
