Hi folks!
(Hi C.S.!)
I thought I would make a few posts on how to do "Spot Readings" when working with your tarot deck. This is a great way to learn how to work with your cards when you are starting out
So what is a "Spot Reading"?
It's glancing over your reading to get an overview of what it has to say before you dive into details ( either intuitively or using your manual). It's a way of reconizing what elements are influencing your reading.
It's easy. takes the pressure off of feeling like you "have to" memorize so many card meanings AND after awhile it becomes second nature ( even when you have memorized who means wha t

)
Of course if you are working with an oracle deck of sorts this particular method of Spot Reading may not apply ( for instance none of this would have any relevance on my Animal Medicine Card Deck because it is not split up into categories).
This segment I am covering just the three categories in a general deck.
Major Arcana
Minor Arcana
Court Cards
Your Major Arcana are milestone or fate cards. If you see a lot of those in a reading then you know some powerful influences are at work.
Minor Arcana are the element cards ( wands,cups,swords, coins). The next segment will cover these fellows in more detail. Learning the basic elemental meanings to the Minor Arcana plays a great part in Spot Reading.
Court Cards are the people cards ( King, Queen, Knight, Page). These are not necessarily real people in your life. They could be aspects of yourself. Or aspects of people around you. With time and practice you'll get better at discerning all that.
Kings usually mean an older masculine influence ( person, aspect).
Queens usually mean an older feminine influence ( person, aspect).
Knight refers to a youngish masculine quality ( think 20's)
Page refers to youthful qualities of either gender.
