Green Dragons - Green Dragons are the smallest so many people think that makes them the weakest. While they arenot physically powerful, they are the dragons of the earth element and are in a way very material beings. Green isthe color of life, and these small but important dragons are full of it.
Gold Dragons - Golds are the chivalrous knights of the dragon world. They honorable, brave, kind, wise, and very good in the field of Magick. They enjoy taking on other shapes such as humans and animals and mingling with that species. However, they are often too trusting and quick to make promisses that they can't always keep as well as they
would like to. They are keepers of the peace and would only attack someone if provoked and in self defense only.
Yellow Dragon - These dragons of the east typically live in deserts, mountains, or plains. They are very helpful when they need to be. However, they can be quite boastful and fickle at times.
Red Dragons - These southern fire dragons are very wise and courageous leaders, but there is a dark side to them.
They are jealous and egotistical, sometimes to the point of hate. While not all of them are like this, it is quite common. They also represent fear, and war. They also represent passion, both good and foul.
Blue Dragons - Blues are dragons of the west. While those that live in the desert are enemies of the broze, many of these dragons live near water or on high mountain tops. They are dragons of compassion, peace, forgiveness, love, intuition, and calmness. On the negative side, they are at times lazy and can have a lack of emotional control.
White Dragons - Often seen as gifts from a divine being, White Dragons make excellent friends in troubled times. Some possess two or three heads. The appearance of one means a gift from the Divine and a shoulder to cry on. Offer them praise or shiny objects.
Black Dragons- Often misconceived as evil, these dragons believe in justice and vengence. They value truth and freedom. These dragons will often appear when you need a protector. Black Dragons will tend to spend many years with you , even a lifetime, They tend to hail from caves and caverns. offer them Incense or a nice athame to imbue.
There are many other colors of dragons, but this is all that I have enough information on to post on this site. These description relate to a general basis only and don't reflect each of them as individuals.
If your Guardian Dragon is a certain color/element/breed/etc. does that say something about you? Like, those qualities are your strengths? Or those are your weaknesses and your Dragon will help you with those aspects of yourself? Or if you are more of a "fire" person, will you get a red dragon? Or will you attract a blue one, since that is your opposite?
I've worked with dragons or rather dragon energy ( briefly) and am by no means an expert on them.
I assume that they are like working with any other animal in that it helps to get to know the dragon energy that has chosen to work with you. The shape and color says alot about what kind of energy is willing to work with you ( for instance I would assume that a red dragon would be fire related however that could change depending on whether you are looking at the Western version or which western version for that matter or whether you are looking at an eastern version).
Working with Dragons in my experience takes a few things:
Patience : This is because sometimes the dragon that is willing to work with you will make you work to figure out what it expects from you and they are not always straightforward.
Intuition : A strong working relationship with your intuition comes in handy for the reason stated above AND the fact that it is hard to come across Dragon Magic information that isn't some how RPG related.
Willing to Work For It : See above.......it may take some frustrating hours to pick apart one vision and even then you may not get all the answers.
Any animal you work with ( in my experience ) will make you WORK for the answer. They are there to help you and work with you, however many don't have a spoon feeding disposition and no one likes to work with a someone they may consider a dullard or lazy in nature. Working with any animal energy is a working partnership. Always keep that in mind ( people tend to think "I'm a human so you HAVE to listen to ME" and that doesn't work well...at...all).
If you feel you are a Firey person you can always ask to work with a Firey Dragon. This could work out well for both of you.....or not ( depending on temperments involved as well as whether a Firey Dragon would want to work with you).
If you are looking to work with Dragons I suggest asking for the best match possible for you regardless of what type that may be. Don't hold any expectations and just accept who comes to help you out. Don't judge. Just see who comes to work with you. When you get the relationship going you can ask it why it chose you ( to help you with your strengths? weaknesses? to guard? etc etc).
I mentioned that I worked briefly with Dragon Energy. And I did. Though quite honestly I have no idea why I attracted Dragon energy at the times I did, and one showed me an intense lesson, one I never understood, and the last one let me know that I had a LOT to learn and do if I were to EVER be on par with her.
Is there any particular Dragon type you are drawn to?
I hope this helps some. Again this comes from my own personal experiences and I will do my best to answer any questions that I can.
Thanks! A lot of that makes a great deal of sense.
I'm not drawn to a specific energy, (I find all elements call to me depending on my mood, the time of year and what's going on), but I have had visions and/or dreams of a shimmery grey or blackish dragon with bright, almost neon-green eyes, that sometimes morph and shift into watery blues. The body type was "Western": four legs, 2 wings, but it was very thin and sinewy and had light scales/armor, instead of being bulky and heavy laden with thick scales. He usually appears small - no bigger than a medium sized dog.
I've tried to communicate with this individual, but it gets horribly fuzzy - almost like static - and I can't make out much of anything. I've never heard of such a dragon, or the element thereof, so I don't really know what to think other than to keep trying to make contact.
Any suggestions on how to clear up the fuzz?

Problem is only the Big Elements ( like Water and Fire and all that) get the credit.
This one sounds shy ( could be young? Could be old? I dare not make an assumption based on size....for instance I own a 2 lb. Yorkshire terrier and she will be that size her whole life).
If it is shy then I would suggest inviting it in and just watching. Waiting. Listening. The static could come from a few things like the shyness ( Dragons like any other animal tend to be more "staticky" or bolt if they feel uncomfortable or disrespected), a twerk in communications ( "sorry the number you are dialing is....blipblipblip) and other things.
I get the idea that the one that has shown itself to you is malleable ( or mutable like mist.....hence the gray color then "watery" feel) and if you press it, you won't get much.
Give that one time. Sometimes the animals that come to us are wary, unsure, "wild".....need a trust bond. Any animal you come to work with will be your partner and with that will be trust ( on both halves to both parties involved). See what you can get by just watching and waiting and "being safe" until you can get more info.
Thanks so much! I will try to ease into making contact a bit more then to see if that helps. I tend to be very intense, especially with things I hold to be important, so it would make sense that I might scare or make others wary at first.
What makes you feel that this one is mutable or malleable? What exactly would that mean when dealing with this dragon? I've never really met an individual that wasn't more-or-less straight forward.
I've heard that giving "gifts" or "offerings" is a good way to bond. Is there anything that you would recommend?

Oddly enough think sweets (cookies, candy) or nice smells. Young dragons can be shy and standoffish because they like us start small and need protection. What you posted indicates a very young dragon, looking for a friend and protector. Feel for the "tendrils" of thought and energy, be receptive and offer them back gently.
Physical affection can be proffered over time as you grow closer and like dogs and cats experimentation will lead to what spots are hard to reach and bring the most relief.
Just to let ya know AA Unca's baliwick ( area of knowledge and such ) IS Dragons so his information is more than likely miles long better than mine (as I said my experience with Dragons has been limited ).
