Are there certain months of the year which traditionally see more dragons of one type than others? Below you will find listed the months I have come to associate with Dragons.
How is this information useful? Well, perhaps you may be thinking of performing a ritual for healing or protection on a specific month.
Check the Dragon associated with that month and read the characteristics about it (below).
Are you drawn to a special Dragon or special trait/ attribute? Checking the month it's associated with, you can create your own very personal calls and spells, as well as meditations. Dragon energy is extremely beneficial in workings dealing with healing, protection, scrying, prophecy as well as astral travel.
The list below and the characteristics of each will guide you in selecting the most appropriate Dragon energy for a specific work.
(The Months and Elements and basic concepts to this post are Chinese, however you will notice the Sabbats integrated into the information.)
DRAGON MONTHS:
January - Wood Dragon Honor the Wood dragon by placing a book of philosophy on your altar or anywhere in your home. Wood dragons are voracious readers (most dragons are) but these appreciate anything on philosophy and religion.
February - Water Dragon Imbolg has been assigned to the Water Dragon. A quiet and introspective thinker, this Dragon's energies are perfect for the celebration of this Sabbat. Invoke his quiet and thankful nature, and entice him with white flowers, and any water offering. Open wide the windows to invite his presence.
March - Fire Dragon Ostara Celebrations lend well to the magickal energies of the Fire Dragon as life, Movement and action is returning to the world again and snows are slowly melting. Honor with candles in the shape of eggs.
April - Earth Dragon
The Earth dragons are very sensual. Incense or perfumes bearing a woodsy or musky scent are very appreciated. Ask your Earth dragon to help you in matters of love.
May - Wood Dragon Beltaine Fires and the representation of wood as the male energy combine with the Wood Dragon for a memorable Sabbat. A good time to ask the Wood Dragon to assist in any new project you are starting out on.Ask your Wood dragon to "jump the fires of Beltaine" with you!
June - Fire Dragon None other than the Fire Dragon for the warmth of Summer Solstice. Engage this outgoing creature with brightly lit red and orange candles, apples and any sort of berries. Ask the Fire Dragon to accompany you or bless your Summer Solstice ritual and for his continued protection.
July - Water Dragon During these water months of summer, you may forget to take the usual caution while sunning, bathing, surfing, diving, boating, etc. Before taking part in any water sport this summer, ask your Water dragon for protection.
August - Fire Dragon Lughnasadh, the festival of the First Harvest and of the sacrifice of John Barleycorn. Fire Dragons make the perfect companions in any ritual for this sabbat. Marked by the giving of thanks for the abundant crops, and of our bounty, Lughnasadh is celebrated with the offering of a little corn, or corn dollies on your altar. The vibrant energies of this dragon will bring warmth and merriment to your own personal festivities and celebrations.Be sure to recognize this dragon's presence with a small cup of wine or beer.
September - Metal Dragon We celebrate the Autumn Equinox in September, and give thanks for our bounty as well as invoke the protection of the gods for the coming winter. The warrior and protective energies of the Metal dragon can be invoked and honored by placing a small silver, copper or pewter dish of water anywhere in your home.
October - Wood Dragon The Wood dragon is often contemplative and philosophical. At this time of the year, during Samhain and the thinning of the veils between our world and the world of Spirit, you may ask the Wood dragon to assist you in scrying, channeling, or any other occult endeavor.
November - Metal Dragon We can continue to ask for the Metal dragon's protection by placing a small metal dish of water near any window sill.
December - Fire Dragon The Fire Dragon can be commemorated in this time of year during Yule festivities. Place red bows or candles in the Fire Dragon's honor and ask for its strength. Fire dragons are the most extroverted of dragons, and so any Yule festivity blessed by them ought to bring you many delights.
