For those who INSIST that there is not enough time in there daily life for some down time then I suggest that these people take a WHOLE DAY OFF at the end of the week. If you have extra money then get a massage. If you are really loaded take the time to REALLY pamper yourself at a day spa.
Really the list of things you can do for yourself is endless. The key here is taking the time out to do them.

So would my martial arts classes count as down time? There are very few things I find quite so relaxing and meditative.
If it is something that you do for you and helps you de-stress then sure it counts! The whole point here is to just find some you time to enjoy whatever it is that helps you relax (whatever that may be).
You are so right - as usual!
My husband and I work for ourselves - the curse of the home-based business is that work time never ends! We have had to FORCE ourselves to plan free days/evenings/mornings and do nothing - and still, we're still talking about the business...it's not always possible, but we do try to pamper ourselves as much as we can. I have a very negative tendency to overwork that once got me into hospital, so it's nothing to make fun of! Not giving ourselves enough time to just BE is disrespectful to life itself. Existence is there to be enjoyed!

I was watching Big Cat Diaries on Discovery yesterday and they were dealing with a Leopard this day. Well, over the period of a couple of months she had cubs and was doing her best to raise them. Unfortunately iut was not to be this year, so she lost both cubs in about 3 weeks. Then they lost track of her. Fearing the worst they found her again about a month later where they got to witness her taking a warthog piglet for lunch.
What struck me is that she lost both cubs ... humans would go insane and nuts over this and be depressed forever, but this leopard, while you could see she was hurt over losing the cubs and she disappeared for awhile to handle it. When they found her again, she wasn't just hunting and eating. No no, when they found her on the piglet kill she made, she was playing with it true cat style. Running up a tree, tossing it, pouncing it. Rolling around on the ground, bouncing up in the air and pouncing again. In general, just enjoying life.
What I got from that is that no matter what life throws at you, be happy for what you have. Life itself.
My down time is getting time to sit and write. Fiction. I am terrible (IMO at least! LOL) but it gives me an outlet. So far I have 5-7 chapters of 3 "books" done. Did I mention I am ADD ;-)
LOL!
When I read a book....well two books...well...
See I pick up a book to read it. When I put it down I canna find it so I start another one. Sometimes I lose that one too. So either I pick up another one or I find the original book.
So reading A book means reading about 3 which is fine by me because as a teenager I would check out tons of books and if I got bored by one I would pick up another until that bored me where I would go back to the first book or pick up a third one.
For some reason my friends thought that was an odd habit......
I am learning this the hard way, however it needs to be done. But I am finding, many ways or trying on different things that will help. Or reconnecting with things that I enjoyed as youngster, well at least a few years ago. =P
With this being said, I have decided that it is quiet time, no interwebz, no social networking, games etc. But I need to survive the next few hours, to have something to keep me awake until I can rest my head on the pillow. =D
