So I was at work one day ( back in the day) and someone mentioned something about the color blue.
This led me to remembering I had to do laundary because SuperPie55555's blue shirt had peanutbutter on it and it needed to be washed.
( See blue = laundary)
The peanutbutter reminded me that I was hungry as it was lunch time, however I did not pack a lunch so I had no peaunutbutter to eat.
(See laundary=peanutbutter=yummies at lunch)
However I did realize that although I was peanutbutterless I was next door to the snack room which had a vending machine and in that machine was coca-cola which goes smashingly ( IMO) with peanutbutter so I could still kinda win out.
(See peanutbutter yumminess =experience enhanced by coke)
So now you can see how Blue= Coke.
And by the way it took me prolly 20 times longer to state that out loud and 40 times longer to just type it out.
All that went through my head in nano seconds so the outcome looked like this:
Person mentions blue
I immediately reply with " Oh yeah! A coke does sound good right now!"
SoOoOoOo
Who else thinks like this???
Anyone??
We know CR does by the post I referred to....... So he does na count.....
I've always done the train-derailment-of thought type process. I come up with my best stuff that way...
I can remember stuff that way, too. It's odd, because through things that have ABSOLUTELY no connection ('cept in my head), I can memorize stuff very very easily.

You could almost say that the ability to easily memorize things might lend us (I too remember this way) an evolutionary advantage; curiously, this is also how surfing the Internet works; we are the children of the Information Age.
Holy zheet that reminds me of a mad TV skit with menomes.
Cyanide
Tastes

Candy
is a great way to remember the parts to you back
Cervical
Thoractic
Lumbar
Sacchral
Coccyx
And now you know!
Thanks menomes!!!
Actually when I was younger I had my own mental phonebook where I arranged my friends numbers so that the last number of one person was the first of another's. I actually had to use filler numbers for radio stations and pizza places ....
5665843834227525723.......those are three numbers right there though over the years they may be scrambled ( weird they popped up real quick when I thought about it and then submerged again but you get the point).
So if I needed to give someone a number you would here me repeating ( much like Rain Man mumbling) a string of "meaningless" numbers until I go to the right one.
We always call it 'association'. You sound a little less straight jacket ready when you say "Sorry, I associated that way to fast" than "Woops, just had my brain derail". Lol. So I am so very guilty for this, and Gypsei Shammon can actually be ten times worse than me! We sit down on the couch, look at an empty cup.
Cup had pepsi in it. Pepsi would be good, doctor pepper better, last week we had doctor pepper and pizza, I don't want pizza, but we watched a black and white, and the time before we watched a black and white, we had chinese food....
me: "Know what I want?"
GS: "..." *sees cup* "Pizza?"
me: "Chinese food."
GS: "Yes, and I want to watch my fair lady again!" (Please note that she took the black and white movie we saw with the chinese food, and that time she said it reminded her of this movie, so this is the movie she asks for.)
That hasn't happen word for word, but it is a common enough in our world. Pick up something off the table, and say how it would be nice to go back to a coffee shop that is out of town. We often think of it at the same time, or half the time can watch the association go through the other's head.
So I am very guilty, I am worse than guilty. We do RPGs in real time, out loud (Like writing a novel out loud together at same time). So no only do out random associations go through our own experiences, but they go through parts that happened in one of our stories, or an association through something one of our characters said!
So I might be ready for the straight jacket, but I prefer the word 'association' over derailment. And for the phone number memorizing? That is so awesome!!
I was rereading this whole thread and when I got to my old phone number rolodex system I just got saying to myself "Damn I was a real strange kid" I think what kicked it off is the rest of the string started to come back and I can probably tell you whose number was whose even though that information is over 20 years old.
I like to think of myself as a "visually associated thinker". It's not so much that I'm a walking derailment as that I bubble/cluster think. One word or image can set off a myriad of associations which believe it or not ( with enough time involved) I can all link together in one long conversation.
I understand what you mean about how you and Gypsei operate. My friend Beccers and I could have a conversation something like this on say Tuesday:
Oh you know that actor! The cute one in that movie?
-Which movie?
The one with all the stuff in it ( description of movie ensues)
-Oh yeah! What WAS his name? Hell what was the name of the movie?
We think on it and give it up.
Friday I'm at her house as she was my neighbor one door over and we are talking about just random stuff when I blurt out of the blue the name of the actor and movie.
She gets all kinds of excited ( no questions asked ) and we pick up the conversation from Tuesday.
So yeah. My brain is are wired weird ( look I spelled THOSE two right in the right order and yet the temptation......) which can kinda suck when interacting with people who I suppose are wired.....well not like me. It's awesome though when I can find others on the same wavelength. Then I don't have to go into a HUGE description of what my brain fired off ( or defend why.....I couldna tell you why really).
I completely understand in the whole picking up conversations where you left them off a few days ago!
For me it get's even better. Thankfully on the computer there is spell check, because I speak dyslectic. This doesn't sound strange or difficult, until I'm tired, or hyper. I can switch first sounds, last sounds, middle sounds, in the same paragraph if I am tired or hyper enough.
Hey, wanna get go some dinner?
Hey, wanna go get simmer done?
Hey, wanna go get dome sinner?
It get's better, often I breeze over words that I call 'illegible' when I say them, like Philosocly instead of philosophically....
So my common comment is, 'If you can understand what I'm saying, you've known me too long."
So, when I say, "Oh, hey, like that guy form the movie, with the stuff,"
GS: "Uh, ya, oh you mean like the, um, and everything?"
M:"Ya! There was that guy, and I still wanna see the other movie."
GS:"I think we own it, let's watch it. "
...Sometimes, there are people who understand you too well.
I'm glad there is someone as awesome as us out there CS!! You totally sound ike someone I would have known in school!
From intial post aboubout coke and landry that reminded me a needed to do the dishes....and then there is mu sis in law an myself... we had the typical "which actors would you do " conversation monthss ago.... but i can her say a random nade like patrick stewart and she woll know exactly what im talking about and we will continue the list of doable actors....
As for brain derailment i prefer to call it circular thought... cuz your brain thinks itself in circles to come up with one thing.....
