....in the military.
At least that is what my husband, I and many others hope the outcome of Friday will be.
Whoa. Wait. Rewind right?
So I was trolling along craigslist ( that place is GREAT) when I found an oddball ad.
"Wanted: military couples for 500$"
What? That sounds like an ad for a pet or something

!
So I clicked and read what it had to say. The Gottman Institute ( for relationships) and the military ( US Army) paired up on a project to make a small film ( video segments) addressing the issues that many couples have when their spouse comes back from an over seas deployment.
Please fill out info, if you are picked you will get 500$ blah blah blah.
So I answered the ad ( after talking to my husband....I wanted to make sure he was okay with this because he has been deployed 3 times now).
We were picked!
So yesterday we spent 10 hours at KOMO4 news studio getting our makeup professionally done ( ICK!....though bubby's reaction to having to wear make up was funny...) and hanging out with a variety of other military couples, waiting to be interviewed in small groups and filmed.
There were four modules and we were participating in the segment about what happens when your spouse comes back and is shut down, withdrawn and emotionally removed.
Yeah fun stuff.
All in all it was an eventful day ( full of learning about different situations, watching the world of filming and editing in full force, making friends, and yumming up a delicsious free lunch).
The aim to all of this?
To help couples save their relationships. The divorce rate and depression rate amongst the military is on a devastating rise and the old fashioned videos and resources are just not cutting it. Hence the birth of new ideas for tools and resources. Hence our participation in a project that is just a piece of a piece of the whole which is to help military couples continue to be successful in their relationship, even ( and especially) through the suck all of deployments and their aftermath.
I have no idea when the project will be completed ( there is more splicing and editing to be done) but as soon as I get access to the link for the vids I'll let ya'll know ( if I am allowed).
Jerry and I really do help the end product helps. Being in the military as a soldier or as a spouse is definately hard work.
