Yarn humour there folks. Crochet HOOK....Knitting HOOKS....
Okay you have all that yarn lying around waiting to be turned into something. Anything! And you just don't know what to make!
Or maybe you already have a couple of blankets you have popped out, however as much a everyone love your creations they are tired of getting blankets from you and you feel your work could go for something more useful than lying at the back of a Thrift Shop whimpering.
Did you think of selling your stuff maybe and were just lost at for a starting off point?
Then fear no more my dears!
I have helpful links for you!!!
Do you have enough red yarn to make a red scarf? Would you like to see that scarf go to good use?
Check out The Red Scarf Project !
You knit or crochet a red scarf and it goes to a foster child who is starting college. No matter what age a person is, it is always nice to know that someone is thinking of you....read more by clicking on that awesome project organization.
Okay so maybe you are currently out of red and are na headed to the yarn store any time soon. That' okay. Red is optional for this one. In fact you can use a variety of colors for this one. This is a great reason to make a few blankets ( of any size) or if you already have a few blankets and no homes for them and are na into selling them then this could be the place for your work!
Check out Project Linus !
Knit, Crochet or even Quilt some love and warmth for a child of any age who is stuck in the hospital for long term. Read up at Project Linus for details, chapters in your neck of the woods and even free patterns!
Okay so maybe you like making blankets....however you have a short attention span. Or maybe you have some panels that were left over and they have been lying around so long that you forgot the pattern ( I am so guilty of that one!). What to do? You hate to waste yarn however these panels are too small to really do anything.....
Check out your local Human Society!
I'm sure mine canna be the only one who accepts handmade mats for these purgatory pets! It's a simple as talking to your local HS to see if they are in need, accepting and and what the details are for the mini mats you are making.
Okay....so there are the freebie ideas. However you are looking to make a lil cash here and you don't have a lot to put into advertising and website fees and all that ( this is what you get for spending all your money on yarn! LOL!) That is okay! I got another link for you.....Of course I do though right?
Check out Etsy !
Etsy is for ANY kind of homemade crafter so pass the word on....There at Etsy they will help set you up at basement bottom prices. It is only 20 cents per item to list....and that keeps it up and viewable for FOUR MONTHS. So if I list 4 items it's 80 cents for FOUR MONTHS. Nice huh?
"But what does Etsy get out of it?"
They get 3.5% of your profit. That is less than FOUR CENTS a dollar. Niiiice huh?
This is a great place to get started, support other crafters by buying from them, and so much more!
Be sure to check Etsy's site for more details.
In the event that you have been burned out on hobbies like this or find that you just don't have the time you can always check your local craigslist to donate your left over yarn to organizations who could use it.
I hope these links helped in giving you an idea or two on what to do with all that yarn or left over projects or even inspires you to get back into the groove of Hooking again.
My friend Cher just showed me a couple of more things you can work your yarn for.
Afghans for Afghans ! That's right. Making afghans and other assorted things for people who have lost so much due to the bs going over in Afghanistan. I'm not trying to start anything political here so please if you are not into donating your time and yarn to this organization, we respect that and are not asking you to do anything against your will.
Cottage Creations (at cottagecreations@hotmail.com) is not a website at the moment. This is Cher's email address for this project. Once a week she and some other people get together at her house to knit, sew, crochet and basically craft together items for our soldiers over seas and to donate to the local V.A. home. If you are interested and local ( my area which is WA state and unless you are into a lot of travelling Pierce County) then click the link and send her a message for details.
If anyone else comes across any organizations to donate your yarn and/or creativity to feel free to keep adding to this thread!
YAY!

Great post! We collaborate with a non-profit organization that raises funds to create schools in Senegal, and I have to say it feels wonderful to do something for those who are really in need. I'd personally add that for me, being a Witch is being someone who cares, someone who does not turn a blind eye to those who are less fortunate than me in any part of their lives. So, I make a portion of my witchy work for free every month, be it a free reading or spell for someone who's unemployed, for example. I think that giving not only keeps our good karma flowing back graciously to ourselves, but also compensates for the free miracles we are constantly receiving, and that we take for granted so often.
I've been selling on Etsy for over three years and it has been a wonderful experience, but I feel the need to say that selling on Etsy is not easy. At this moment, Etsy has over 100.000 sellers and the fight for sales is high. If you are not really committed to your shop, networking and meeting new people all the time, you can easily get lost in the thousands of items that are listed every day, and the massive exodus of Ebay sellers to Etsy.
If anyone is interested in joining Etsy, I wrote a guide article for Etsy beginners that you can find HERE - hope it helps!!!!

Lovely article! Well written, informative, to the point and all with a smile.
I found it very useful and I think others will too.
I do na plan on doing Etsy until I have some bulk items available. That way I don't feel pressured ( which can cause neurosis and procrastination for me....especially when variables crop up on a daily basis making a DEFINATE daily goal almost impossible).
I looked around on there for what I plan on providing and I think I have a shot at it because a lot of people are doing just what you said. Taking someone elses idea and damn near doing the same thing.
I definately got inspiration from some of the other crafters, however I know that some of my novice no how would not be able to pull off some of those patterns while I know I could definately improve and put a twist on others ( so I hope ).
It be awhile before I Etsy. I'll definately be blaring my horns and jingling my bells when I get to the point of being an online seller.
Also I loved what you said in your post:
"I think that giving not only keeps our good karma flowing back graciously to ourselves, but also compensates for the free miracles we are constantly receiving, and that we take for granted so often."
I totally agree. I do most things for free and when I am asked for a price for something I do it leaves me blank. That will be the hard part about selling. Figuring the price out. Thankfully I have been scrolling through Etsy and I have gotten an idea on what the ball park is for what I feel I have to offer.
What I have to watch out for is not giving the stuff I am making for bulk or examples....away....for free... to friends and family. LOL!
