Anyone who knows me, knows I like animals. Over the years the furry friend category has grown in my house. In addition to the fur we have scales, shells, and feathers too. Let me introduce you to my non-human family members.
Hoody.
She is a Calico cat that I found underneath the hood of my bro's black truck one fine day. It being Arkansas, it was already 80 some odd degrees by 10 am. I was afraid she would roast. When I popped the hood up she came up to greet me as if we were old friends. She is going on 9 years old now.
Hoodlet.
This is Hoody's daughter and looks just like her. Yes I know. I can't name animals. Anyways Hoodlet ( or Let-Let, or Princess Pearbutt seeing that is the shape she has taken on since she was fixed) is a bit addled. She had an accident when she was younger involving a head injury so she is easily confused, quite vocal and has the memory of a small goldfish.
"Mexicat"
His original name was Turveyesque or Esque for short (as he is a black and white cat who looks much like his uncle Topsy Turvey who was a breach kitty hence HIS name). My mother for some reason thought he looked mexican ( he has a black patch on his chin which makes him look as though he has a goatee and while my mother is not racist by any means, it seems this goatee marking has denoted my cat as a "Hot Tamale"). Anyways Mexicat is Let-Let's son from her first litter.
'Manda.
She actually named herself. Don't ask. Anyways she is a muddy calico cat and Mexi's younger sister ( she is from litter number two). At this point in her life she is about 15 pounds and counting because she seems to prefer the taste of dog food for large breeds over MeowMix Original.
Prissy.
This is 'Manda's litter sister and is a grey tabby. She earned her name with her OCD cleaning habits. In fact if it were na for her, 'Manda would have never learned to clean herself.....
Bop
The father of Prissy ( pretty damn sure as she is a clone of his). He was a stray that adopted me. As of this last year he has pretty much ditched us for another family however he does come by from time to time to make his presence known.
Starvin Marvin.
This would be the bastard offspring of Rapist Cat ( a black nappy chimney sweep of a stray who mounts any female cat in the vicinity). My roomy has tamed and more or less adopted Marvin ( who is a replica of his nappy father.....the only difference between the two is that Marvin has tufts of whit hair sprouting from his ears).
Ninja and Miranda.
I do not count these two. A friend of mine stayed with me for a month and when she left she could not get her Hawaiian cats in the van. They pretty much live in my basement ( though Ninja is quite social). Don't get me wrong....they are welcome into the rest of the house.....my cats just didna appreciate the Hawaiians attempt of a takeover in the turf war.
Those are just the cats..........
I have two dogs.......
Link.
Named after everyone's favorite Hylian Defender....it's a Zelda thing okay? Anyways he was adopted from the pound. His paper said "Australian Cattle Sheperd". The reality is that he is a large beautifully straberry gold brindled mutt with a big heart and about 2/3 a braincell which focuses happily on anything that will make a bright reflection. His love and zest for prisms, lazer lights, flashlights has resulted in his inability to smell ( as he smashes forward full speed ahead with no second thought of the surface his nose may encounter).
Emily
She is a small black pitbull ( mix?) that I saved from an abusive home. She is lively, full of energy and has it in her thick head that any baby that comes into the house is her puppy. She LOVES babies. A lot. Recently Ems ( as I call her for short) found a burrow of rabbits nearby and......well I was dissapointed that she didna crap out a pair of earmuffs ( I love animals....I dislike rabbits).
Now for my fish.........
I had 4 betas Shen Ban Ye Si Cho, Dzuh, Snowflake, and BluBelle. Si Cho was a beautiful midnight silk color ( hence his name) and Dzuh looks like a zombie sick fish with a pale white face and tattered fins ( it's because he is a crown tail though). Snowflake is iridescent white/violet with blue fins and BluBelle is ....well really Blue.
Si Cho and Dzuh were tankmates for most of the year ( with a partition). Twice they had managed to jump that partition and be in the same area and twice they survived each other. A pretty rare thing considering betas are known as "Siamese Fighting Fish" and are very territorial and aggressive. Recently Si Cho passed away though......
Ya like hermit crabs?
My son has a large hermit crab named Crawler ( he just went through his first molt) and I watch a 5 year old who canna have pets at her home so I got her a smaller crab.
Demon bird.
Yes we own a bird. He is mean and ornery and very talkative in the mornings. His name is Kevin and he is a..............pigeon.
So welcome to my petting zoo!
Regardless of the suggestions from friends and family I am NOT interested in:
Making a moat so I can have alligators
Seeing if my husband will notice if we have another cat by sneaking a Tiger in here
Making room for a Grizzly Bear
Entertaining thoughts on owning a gorilla
Making room for goats, llamas, chickens or other farm animals.
So what animals have you got in your family?
