Macha I agree that a parents job is to give their children a religious jumping off point ( if not a spiritual one and no I do na necessarily think they both are the same though if done the right way they can be a very nice pair).
There are some parents who either
A:
Don't give a rats ass about religion in one way or the other
B:
Are still searching themselves
C: Scoff at religion and ridicule it to no end ( providing no religious jump point save a negative impression)
D:
Are teaching/raising their kids with only what they know about religion....which is not necessarily a bad thing. I just want people to think on that last one for a teeny tiny moment.
Noooooow how many of us come from one religious background but ended up here as a Pagan of some sorts?
Good for you..... and yay and all that......
Now how many of you have parents that would still accept you as a human being for that choice you made for yourself?
O DAYAMN GINA!!! You see a lot of hands go down on THAT one.....
Okay people so how hard was it to find your path since your parents weren't about to educate you on that?
How much easier would it have been to connect with people who understood you if they had been available as friends during your school life?
I mean how would your self esteem have been? Your confidence? Your self worth that you were na alone or crazy? Your ideas about having the right to be loved by something you know is out there but not the religious icon you were raised with?
How nice would it have been to have the opportunity to at least explore and alternitive idea to the one you were raised with regarding the religion you were brought up with?Or at the very least talk to someone your age about such things?
How open minded are your parents so that if there had been something like a genereal education and acceptibility factor that just maybe you could practice openly today?

Yeah.

The school is there to help supplement education away from home otherwise technically it's my job to make sure my son can use trigonometry, gets State history ( and I gives a fug about WA state history) and every other category of education out there. I'm not that smart nor do I have that training......We send our kids to school to learn about things in the outside realm outside of our homes.
ALL KINDS of religion exists outside that bubble. Whether we like it or not.

If the school system got to a point where they were teaching things I did na agree with then it is my right as a parent to yank my kid out and teach them as I see fit.
Personally as a parent I want my kid to have really broad horizons. To each parent their own though.

So why na supplement religion? You gonna bring christianity into the mix at school then get your religion index out and start adding in others? No one is sure as hell gonna take christianity outta anything......and trying to make things "fair" by whining about seperations between anything just segregates people and eats up time. And we don't need segregations or more sperations.
How many people here can list off nifty names for other races, forms of cognitive functioning, physical capability, athletic abilitiy, physical aesthetics, dietary alternatives, extracurricular activities?
By nifty I mean MEAN. You know....beaner,gimp, blonde ( as deragotory), retard.....you get the idea.
If you honestly tell me that you have never heard a mean slang word in regards of anything then I want to shake your hand..........
We already have enough seperation and it has taken decades to even begin to try and sew those rifts together so the "someone may get picked on..." argument washes down like a big cup of bullshit.

WHY are we so afraid of public religion ( read school system)? I mean WHY??? Same reason we were afraid of black kids hanging out with white kids. Same reason we were afraid of Jews. Same reason we were afraid of retarded or handicapped people. Same reason we picked on fat kids, flat kids, tall kids, kids with braces, kids with glasses, kids who are poor, kids who are rich, and all that when we were in school.
Because it is different......

We have become the United States of If We Can't Please Everyone We Will Just Take It Off The Shelf And Pretend It Does Not Exist. Using such ploys as pretending to be open and understanding by integrating "new" thought ideas by say inserting words like "Solstice" into a flippin GAP commercial while people studiously argue about Christmas trees to the point that THAT main HOLY DAY symbol ( and yes I said Christmas DEAL WITH IT....I REFUSE TO CALL IT AN EVERGREEN TREE HERE) has become SO OFFENSIVE that malls in some areas canna have them as part of the HOLY DAY cheer and celebration.

YAY for vanillaism!!!!!!

It started years ago when people got pissed about the CORRECT holiday greeting for December. Now it's almost scary to say Merry Christmas without getting your head bit off. Like IKNOW you are a PAGAN, JEW, or SPOON WORSHIPPER? GET OVER IT. What was once about brotherhood and joy and family and all that gushy shit is now a huge industry in commercialism because no one even really knows what they are happy about. No wait..it's about Jesus or God/dess too or whoever....kinda got lost in all those price tags and bickering...Anyways some aren't even remotely happy because they don't have another option available for alternative happiness this time of year.

Merry snowflake day? HEY FUGGER YOU!!! I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA!!!! I DON'T EVER GET SNOW!!! WTF ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY THERE!!!!????

So first the whining about greetings and then the whining about monuments on gubment property and now the whining about gubment meetings and the whining about offensive material ( because religion has become just that.....offensive) in schools.

Diversity is the key. The action is an eraser though. And through that people think there will be an even keeled happiness. Because someone official and bidnezz like in a suit with all his/her suit bidnezz friends will take care of it.
"Don't give the gubment the power over religion".
They already HAVE IT.
This thread is proof.
They have power over how we think it is wrong to expose our children to other religious ideas in a public educational setting.
They take holiday activities out of the school and paste some vanilla panacea name over it to make it acceptable ( and we yum it up...IT'S HALLOWEEN not a "HARVEST PARTY" because someone THESE DAYS MAY GET MAD!!! THOSE PEOPLE TOOK THEIR KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL FOR THE DAY BACK IN MY DAY....as example).
They take holiday symbols out of the publics eye to "please others whom the icon may not represent" ( I am na a big Snowflake Day fan but those decorated Evergreen Trees were pretty nice and nifty to see in the stores).
And we are giving it to them. Everyone else who doesn't is hung.
Soon they will take it out of our homes. Enough exposure to that and......
Fug it.
Why not just make it a little bit easier for da gubment and stop wasting time bickering about amendments ( does amendment mean like add on or fix it upper ANYWAYS? Is'nt there a way to amend those? No wait only da gub can do that) and rights and all that.....
Let's just shoo out the idea of diverse religion and instead make a hideous conglomerate that looks like it respects all aspects of all religions and put it as the shining symbol of a faction of the gubment called Mini Love.
We.
Are.
Already.
Racing giddily towards that blindly.

* goes to find a BB booth to go confess in*

That reminds me Sam n CR......."educated" Sheep are one thing.....it the Proles I canna understand.....no wait....nvm.....same diff....my bad.

*steps away politely with shield in tow*

TRUE Story; my Washington State History teacher showed us clips from the "Woodstock" documentary because Jimi Hendrix happened to be born in Washington. I certainly wouldn't want to rob any kids of that Experience!
