I have teenagers who are assigned to dinner one night a week. They all have their standby, but recently we are trying to add in a dessert or two. Remind you, they are BOY teenagers so this has to be easy (love them with all my heart, but they are still learning! LOL)
Pumpkin cake:
1 box favorite cake mix (I prefer a spice or carrot, they like plain ol' white)
1 can pumpkin
Mix together and bake as directed. Don't add box ingredients (eggs, oil)
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
The other favorite has no name...we just call in the Fruit Cake Mix *LOL*
Pour in one can of any pie filling (apple, cherry....) in the bottom of a 9x13 pan.
Sprinkle evenly a boxed cake mix (white goes well with apple, chocolate with cherry)
Drizzle one melted cube of butter/margarine across top.
Bake according to directions.
Fast, easy and nummy ;-)

Both are excellent suggestions ('specially for the folks just learning to cook). I'm going to print that out and give it to Dakota (he's my oldest @ 14). He actually likes to cook (he's not too good at it yet, but ya gotta admire his spirit!).
