Reiki is used for a wide variety of things really.
Come to think of it, working with it you are only limited by your imagination and your ability to let yourself go wit the flow ( reiki tends to take the reins when it comes to the application ).
So here are some things you can use reiki for:
Physical healing such as cuts, migraines, illness, headaches, etc etc etc ( however it is noted that one should not use reiki on any breaks until the break is properly set).
Emotional healing ( confronting past issues, resolving past/current issues, confidence, stability, happiness, getting rid of sadness, helping with grief etc etc etc)
Mental focus and clarity ( remembering things, insight etc etc)
Helping to open doors for psychic awareness and acting as a bridge from your conscious self to your spiritual or higher self
Ahh as you said working with the pets....I found out recently that are Oscar.. a fish with major altering his tank issues it rather fond of the Reiki. So I attempted a little pet exercise with low lvl reiki and he responsed. So after doing that I went a little more and found him to come closer to the glass as to rub against it. He isn't the most social fish I have seen or owned but its getting there.
Just find it funny that he is no better than the cats when he gets his little dose of Reiki.

Same here - reiki is so useful and easy to practise! Having 8 pets made it an everyday thing here, specially with one of our dogs that suffers from chronic post traumatic stress due to being abandoned during a tropical storm.
I admit, I had to look up reiki on wikipedia to figure out what it consists of; whomever wrote the article seems very skeptical of it. Where would be a good place to look to find a more sympathetic treatment of the subject?
