Well years ago I blended Yule and Christmas together.
Why?
One year my daughter's grandmother came over and wanted to know where all of the presents were. I explained that the kids were eager and we opened them early ( they were teenie tinies back then) as she was not exactly a pagan friendly sort. She was pretty pissed as it was that the gifts could na wait until Christmas.
So when Yule comes about I explain Yule to the kids and all that. And it kicks off the first day in the week of opening gifts ( which ends on Christmas where I explain Christmas if they ask for it and all).
So yeah a dinner, candles, presents, a prayer or so.
This year I'm sort of stuck running an anime group in Parkland for the evening so Yule will be kicked off rather early in the day ( as I will be the only one up later on).
my adopted mother, though overtly Christian, still allowed me to open any gifts that arrived by mail or even personal visits as soon as they arrived.
Now, I like to focus on festivities and lights and beauty during Yule. This year has been rough, but I am feeling the unstoppable urge to decorate tomorrow evening and give my son a proper Yuletide celebration =)
I associate Yule with much food, many lights and over-the-top gluttony!
Well it turned out we got SNOW. And more snow. And more snow. So......so much for having to go to Parkland for anime! HA HA!
My son had a friend over for the weekend ( which extended due to weather), we opened some gifts and I lit bunches of candles ( one for every window in my house....I did na know I had that many windows!). My room alone was all aglow ( the altar had 6 candles and I have 3 windows). It was nice and soothing. The soft sound of falling snow flakes blended in making it a nice evening all the way around.
