I have heard that Amethyst is really good for dispelling nightmares ( a cluster under your pillow is supposed to act sort of like a crystal dream catcher).
Amethyst is also used to help cleanse ( and boost) other gemstones. How? Put your stone on a cluster of amethyst ( for about a day.....time can vary.....and it helps if you can sense stones or have a friend who can do that).

It's known as the stone of spirituality and contentment. It is said to have the ability to transmute lower vibrational energies into higher ones.
It's supposed to balance the energies of the intellectual, emotional and physical bodies and can providea clear connection between this plane and others.
It's supposed to be able to clear the aura and transmute dysfunctional energy within the body ( read neutralize and /or put a positive spin on not so positive energy you may be keeping).
It can also be used to help gain strength, invigoration and peace ( the most perfect peace).
A lot of people use it for meditation as it is excellent for conducting calm and peacefullness ( so it helps you enter and maintain that state of being).
It is said to be real helpful in shielding against psychic attacks ( it works by transmuting the negative energy so the attack is no longer an attack....whoohoo!!)
It is said to bring serenity, composure while assisting in helping one maintain a fair attitude with decision making an enhances the abilities in managing responsibilities.

These are just some of amethysts many qualitites ( did you know it is in the quartz crystal family? This could explain why it has so many various uses

I've worked with it and I know others who have too and so here is what I have seen and experienced:
Amethyst can boost talents and energy of people, things and other crystals. I know one fellow who had all the ability of a psychic brick. My sister's amethyst sphere had been activated ( long story I'll share sometime) and we both have mediumship abilities......at any rate he ended up with a taste of what THAT is like. For all his curiosity he was NA happy with the experience.
I have noticed that people who have (much) negative (energy) experiences built up or are really "talented" ( read "psychic" capability here) are HIGHLY attracted to this stone ( I have one friend who fits both bills and Amethyst is his stone of choice when it comes to "crack").
Amethyst is good for helping one focus and boost "psychically".
Amethyst can definately boost other stones ( oh like Selenite).
